Craigieburn roaches
Cockroach Pest Control Craigieburn
The north gets properly cold, and that changes which cockroach you end up with. Out here the species that keeps calling in July is the one living off the heat your house makes.

Outside work still matters here, but the winter calls come from the warm voids inside.
Cockroach pest control Craigieburn calls behave differently to the ones Tim takes closer to the bay, and the reason is temperature. This part of Hume sits out on the open basalt plain with no water nearby to soften the cold, so winters bite harder here than they do ten kilometres south. The large outdoor species slow right down when that happens. The German cockroach does not, because it never relied on the weather in the first place.
That makes the northern corridor a two-season suburb for this work. Through summer the calls look like everywhere else, with big roaches wandering in from pits, bins and garden beds. From about May onwards the callers are almost all describing something small, pale and indoors. The wider local pest picture is on the pest control Craigieburn page.
Below: why the indoor species does so well in modern estate housing, how a two-storey house gets treated, when to book, and what Tim needs from you first.
Why here
Why does cockroach pest control Craigieburn keep going through winter?
Because the German cockroach lives on the warmth a house produces rather than the warmth outside it. A modern estate home runs a gas duct heater, a hot water unit, a dishwasher, a fridge and a pile of standby electronics, all of which throw off steady heat into enclosed spaces. A cold July outside makes no difference to an insect sitting in a warm void.
- German cockroach
- A small pale brown cockroach, roughly 12mm to 15mm, carrying a pair of dark lengthwise lines on the plate behind its head. It breeds indoors all year, it is seen in daylight when numbers climb, and it is the only cockroach in Melbourne that genuinely does not need the outdoors at all.
Where the warmth sits depends on which part of Craigieburn you are in, and the three settings below cover most of what Tim finds.

Double-storey estate homes
The heater unit usually sits in the roof void with flexible ducting running out to ceiling registers, and an evaporative cooler sits on the roof above it. That space is dry, dark and warm for months at a time, and it connects to the wall cavity over the top plate.
Downstairs the heat is in the dishwasher cavity, the fridge motor housing and the warm cabinet beside the oven. Upstairs it is the ensuite stack and the bulkhead over the kitchen.

The older township streets
Around the station and the original Craigieburn Road frontages there is housing from well before the estates arrived. Original kitchens, open service penetrations, settled joinery and a roof space that has had decades to collect material.
These jobs look more like inner-suburban work: the treatment goes into voids that were built open and never closed.

Cardboard, appliances and lifts home
German cockroaches do not cross a suburb on foot. They travel in boxes, in secondhand appliances, in furniture and in bags, which is why a brand new house can have them within a fortnight of moving in.
A carton brought home from a shift, a fridge collected from a listing, or a washing machine inherited from a relative are all far more likely sources than anything in your kitchen.
None of this is about how clean the house is, and it is worth saying plainly because people out here tend to assume the opposite. A spotless kitchen with a warm void behind it is a perfectly good home for this insect.
The treatment
How is a two-storey Craigieburn house actually treated?
From the voids outward, on both levels, with the roof space treated as part of the job rather than an afterthought. Gel goes into joinery, dust goes into cavities, and the areas around the heater unit and the duct penetrations get attention because that is the warmest harbourage in a house like this.
- Identify and mapSpecies first, then every warm void on both floors: kitchen, laundry, ensuite, hot water cupboard and the roof space.
- Treat the joineryHinge gaps, carcass corners, behind kickboards, the dishwasher cavity and the gap behind the fridge.
- Work the cavityIf the manhole gives safe access, dust is applied over the top plate from above, reaching the between-rooms run that no amount of cupboard work gets to.
- Return for the hatchEggs are not reliably reached first time, so a second visit at the right interval is part of the plan.
Nothing is applied inside heating or cooling ductwork. Registered labels set out where a product may go, and ducting that moves air through bedrooms is not on that list. What gets treated is the void around the register and the penetration it passes through, with the system switched off while the work happens.
The method behind all of it, including why surface spray backfires on an indoor population, is on the Melbourne cockroach control page. If yours is the small striped one seen in daylight, the staged approach is covered on the German cockroach page. If you are only seeing big reddish brown ones in summer, that is an outdoor problem and the large cockroach page is the one you want.

Timing
When is the best time to book a Craigieburn cockroach job?
Winter, if you have the indoor species, and as early in summer as possible if you have the outdoor ones. It runs against instinct, but a July booking on a German cockroach problem is a good one: the population is concentrated in a few warm voids, the diary is easier and nothing is walking in from outside to confuse the result.
| Time of year | What is usually active | What that means for booking |
|---|---|---|
| December to February | Large outdoor species, with some indoor work | Busiest stretch. Book as soon as you see activity rather than waiting it out. |
| March to April | Outdoor species moving indoors as nights cool | The classic time for one big roach a night in the laundry. Perimeter work matters most. |
| May to August | German cockroaches, almost exclusively | Quieter diary, concentrated population, good conditions for a staged treatment. |
| September to November | Everything waking up | Worth treating before summer if you had a problem last year. |
Craigieburn sits on a northern run that gets driven regularly, so most weeks a new booking fits inside the same week. Tim tells you the day and the window at the time of booking, and says so plainly when the next genuine opening is the week after rather than inventing a shorter answer.
Townhouse rows and unit blocks are worth raising early. Share a party wall, a ceiling space or a waste stack and the insects are one population spread over several kitchens, so doing a single dwelling buys quiet rather than a result. Tim says that before quoting so you can talk to the neighbours or the owners corporation first.
Booking
What does Tim want to know before quoting?
A photo, which room, what hour they appear, and how many storeys the house has. Between them those four settle species and scope, and scope is what a price is built on. One licensed technician does the lot, working a radius of about 40 km from the city, and there is no premises in Craigieburn to speak of.
- Daylight or dark sightings, since that single detail usually settles the species.
- Whether the roof space has a manhole and where it is.
- Any spray or bomb used recently, because a repellent film changes where bait can be placed.
- Babies, pregnancy, asthma, fish, birds or reptiles, all of which change product and placement.
Get on the northern run
A photo and a postcode are usually all Tim needs to name the insect, outline the work and quote it, before anything is committed.
Book a cockroach visitWhat sets the price
Species, how many levels and rooms carry activity, and whether the job needs a return trip for the hatch.
How cockroach jobs are pricedCovered jobs run with a three month re-treatment promise, meaning that species reappearing where Tim worked, inside those months, gets dealt with again for free. Products hold a current APVMA registration and are used strictly to label, and the Victorian licence register is public, so licence 86488 can be looked up by anyone, any time. Pricing for every pest is on the cost guide, and if you want to try a few things first the guide on getting rid of cockroaches rates the home methods honestly.
Questions
Craigieburn cockroach questions
Why am I getting cockroaches in Craigieburn in the middle of winter?
Because you almost certainly have the indoor species. German cockroaches breed in warm voids inside the house and take no notice of what the weather is doing outside. In a colder pocket of Melbourne this shows up clearly: the big outdoor roaches disappear over winter and the indoor calls keep coming.
How long is the wait for a visit?
Usually under a week, since the northern corridor is on a run Tim drives regularly. Summer is the tightest period and winter the easiest. A date and a time window are confirmed when the booking is made, with a straight answer if the first real opening lands next week.
What happens if they come back?
Three months of re-treatment cover applies to covered jobs. See that cockroach again where Tim worked, inside the window, and the repeat treatment costs you nothing. What the cover extends to varies by treatment and is explained at the quote, not discovered afterwards.
Could they be living in my ducted heating?
Around it, commonly. Inside the ducting itself, less often. The warm spots are the unit, the roof void it sits in and the voids the duct passes through, and those are all treatable. The ductwork itself is not a place any registered product may be applied, and the honest answer is that a clean and a seal does more there than chemistry.
My house is only four years old. How is this possible?
Age offers no protection. German cockroaches are carried in on cardboard, appliances and furniture, and a new kitchen is warm, tight and full of exactly the enclosed spaces they want. Plenty of these jobs are in houses still inside their builder's warranty period.
Still seeing them in the middle of winter?
That narrows the species considerably. Send Tim a photo and the room, and you will have an identification and a price before anything is booked.
