Childcare for Families Across Ku-ring-gai and the Upper North Shore
Looking for childcare on the Upper North Shore that fits the drive to work? Our centre sits at 75 Killeaton Street, St Ives, just off Mona Vale Road, and families come to us from right across Ku-ring-gai and beyond: Pymble and Gordon a few minutes away, Turramurra and Wahroonga to the north-west, Hornsby further up the line, and Chatswood to the south. This page shows how far each suburb is and how drop-off works.
This page is for families who live or work across the north of Sydney and are weighing up whether a St Ives centre suits their daily route. For each nearby suburb it gives the distance and typical off-peak drive, the roads most families use, and how the centre fits with train commutes on the North Shore line. It finishes with parking and drop-off, and answers the questions families ask most.

Where our families travel from
Most families at our centre live within a short drive of St Ives, across the suburbs of Ku-ring-gai and the wider Upper North Shore. Choosing childcare on the Upper North Shore is often about the daily route, so many families pick us because St Ives sits between home and work, or on the way to a station.
Ku-ring-gai Council covers most of our catchment, from St Ives, Gordon and Pymble to Turramurra, Wahroonga, Killara, Lindfield and Roseville.
Hornsby, in Hornsby Shire, and Chatswood, in the City of Willoughby, sit at either end of the North Shore railway line and bring families to us too.
To the east, St Ives Chase is our closest neighbour, and families from Belrose and Terrey Hills on the Northern Beaches side sometimes choose us for the Mona Vale Road connection.
Families from further afield are welcome too, especially when a parent works nearby. Anyone can enrol, wherever they live.
St Ives has no railway station, which shapes how families travel. Most drive, and many combine a drop-off here with a train from Gordon, Pymble or Turramurra.
Because long day care has no zoning, you can choose the centre that fits your family best, wherever you live.

Drive times to 75 Killeaton Street
Off-peak, the centre is about 6 minutes from Pymble and Gordon, 7 to 9 minutes from Turramurra, Wahroonga and Killara, 11 minutes from Lindfield and Roseville, and 14 to 16 minutes from Hornsby and Chatswood. The table shows the road distance and typical drive from each suburb's station or centre with no traffic.
| Suburb | Road distance | Off-peak drive | Council |
|---|---|---|---|
| St Ives Chase | 3.1 km | about 5 min | Ku-ring-gai |
| Pymble | 3.9 km | about 6 min | Ku-ring-gai |
| Gordon | 4.2 km | about 6 min | Ku-ring-gai |
| Turramurra | 4.5 km | about 7 min | Ku-ring-gai |
| Wahroonga | 5.3 km | about 8 min | Ku-ring-gai |
| Killara | 5.7 km | about 9 min | Ku-ring-gai |
| Lindfield | 7.8 km | about 11 min | Ku-ring-gai |
| Roseville | 8.5 km | about 11 min | Ku-ring-gai |
| Hornsby | 8.2 km | about 14 min | Hornsby Shire |
| Belrose | 10.2 km | about 12 min | Northern Beaches |
| Chatswood | 10.6 km | about 16 min | Willoughby |
Peak traffic affects suburbs differently. Trips that use Mona Vale Road alone, from Gordon, Pymble or St Ives Chase, tend to stay close to the off-peak figure. Trips that need the Pacific Highway, from Wahroonga, Hornsby, Lindfield or Chatswood, are more likely to stretch in school terms.
Times are free-flow estimates from OpenStreetMap routing, checked in September 2026. School-zone and peak-hour traffic on Mona Vale Road and the Pacific Highway can add several minutes, so allow extra time for morning drop-off.
Use the table to test your own morning: take your suburb's time, add a few minutes for peak traffic and parking, and compare it with the drive to any other centre you are considering.
Distances are measured from each suburb's railway station, or its centre where it has no station, to our front gate.
Hornsby
From Hornsby, the centre is about 8 kilometres by road, roughly 14 minutes off-peak, heading south through Wahroonga and Turramurra before turning onto Mona Vale Road. Hornsby families often choose us for our preschool program and all-year long day care hours, making the short trip down the ridge part of the morning run.
The route is simple to learn: south on the Pacific Highway, through Wahroonga and Turramurra, then east on Mona Vale Road to Killeaton Street.
Hornsby is a major rail hub at the top of the North Shore line, so parents working in the city can drop off here and catch a train from Turramurra or Pymble, rather than driving back to Hornsby.
Allow extra time in the morning, as the Pacific Highway through Wahroonga can be slow in school terms.
A typical Hornsby morning might look like this: leave home just after 7:00am, arrive at Lead before 7:30am to beat the school traffic, then drive on to work or park near Turramurra station, about 7 minutes from us, for the train.
When your child reaches the preschool year, we help with the move to kindergarten at your local school, sharing what we know about your child's learning with you to pass on.
Waitara, between Hornsby and Wahroonga, adds only a couple of minutes to the same route.
Everything a Hornsby family needs to know, from routes to school transition, is on our childcare for Hornsby families page.

Down the ridgeWahroonga
From Wahroonga, the centre is about 5 kilometres, roughly 8 minutes off-peak, via the Pacific Highway and Mona Vale Road. That makes St Ives a practical choice for Wahroonga families, especially when a place in their own suburb is hard to find on the days they need.
Warrawee, between Wahroonga and Turramurra, is a similar distance at about 9 minutes.
Parents commuting by train can drop off and continue to Turramurra or Pymble station, both a few minutes from the centre.
The drive from Wahroonga passes through Turramurra and along the ridge, a route most local parents already know well.
Because the trip is short, the drop-off itself is quick, with no need to find parking near a busy station.
If you are on a waitlist closer to home, a place with us can be a practical start, and siblings can join the same centre later, which makes daily logistics much simpler.
Wahroonga families heading into the city by car can drop off and join the Pacific Highway at Pymble or Gordon, without doubling back.
Our guide for Wahroonga families covers routes, drop-off timing and the rooms in more detail.

Eight minutes awayTurramurra
From Turramurra, the centre is about 4.5 kilometres, roughly 7 minutes off-peak. It is one of the most convenient suburbs for a St Ives drop-off, with a direct run across to Mona Vale Road and Turramurra station close by for parents heading into the city.
Turramurra sits on the ridge between Wahroonga and Pymble, and the drive across to St Ives uses local roads before reaching Mona Vale Road, so it rarely involves the worst of the highway traffic.
North Turramurra families are a similar distance, about 8 minutes, coming down through the leafy streets toward Mona Vale Road.
Turramurra's station is a sensible train stop for parents who drop off here first, avoiding the busier interchanges further south.
For families who work locally, a 7 minute trip means pick-up can happen late in the day without a rush, since we are open until 6:00pm.
Our Pre-Kindy and Preschool rooms suit Turramurra families planning for school, as children build the skills for kindergarten over two years.

A quick run acrossGordon
From Gordon, the centre is about 4 kilometres, roughly 6 minutes off-peak, straight up Mona Vale Road. Gordon is also the main transport interchange for St Ives, with trains on the North Shore line and buses running to St Ives, so it suits parents who drop off by car and then take the train.
Transport for NSW's trip planner shows current bus and train times between Gordon and St Ives.
Because Gordon is where many St Ives buses start and finish, it is also a practical route for families without a second car.
The Mona Vale Road run from Gordon is one of the most direct trips in our catchment, with no need to cross the Pacific Highway.
Gordon also has shops and services around the station, so errands can fit around pick-up on the way home.
A Gordon family catching the train into the city can drop off at 7:30am, be back at Gordon station a few minutes later and still make an early service.

Straight up the roadChatswood
From Chatswood, the centre is about 10.5 kilometres, roughly 16 minutes off-peak, heading north along the Pacific Highway to Mona Vale Road. Families who live in Chatswood rarely travel this far for daily care, but parents who live in Ku-ring-gai and work in Chatswood often find St Ives sits neatly on their route.
For those parents, the morning drop-off happens close to home, and the drive or train to Chatswood follows.
Chatswood's station and bus interchange also connect with the North Shore line stations closest to us.
Some parents choose a centre close to work instead, so they can visit at lunch or collect quickly. Others prefer a centre near home, so their child's friends live nearby. Both are good reasons; the right choice depends on your week.
For a parent who lives in Pymble and works in Chatswood, for example, the centre adds only a few minutes to the morning drive.
Allow more time in peak hour, as the Pacific Highway between Chatswood and Gordon is one of the busier stretches in our area.
See our Chatswood families page for routes and timing.

On the way to workPymble, Killara, Lindfield and Roseville
Pymble is our closest station suburb, about 4 kilometres and 6 minutes off-peak. Killara is about 9 minutes away, East Killara about 8, and Lindfield and Roseville about 11 minutes each. All four sit on or near the North Shore line, so families can pair a St Ives drop-off with a train into the city.
Pymble sits right beside us on Mona Vale Road, and West Pymble families are only a little further, reached through the same Mona Vale Road corner.
Pymble families have one of the shortest trips in our catchment, often under 10 minutes door to door outside peak times.
Killara and East Killara families usually come up via the Pacific Highway or through Gordon.
East Killara families can come across quiet residential streets, which avoids the Pacific Highway for most of the trip.
Lindfield and Roseville are at the southern edge of our usual catchment, and families from there tend to choose us when St Ives lies between home and work.
Whichever suburb you are in, the drive-time table above shows how the trip compares.
It is worth comparing more than the nearest centre. From Killara, Lindfield or Roseville, the morning drive north to St Ives runs away from the heaviest city-bound traffic, so it can be quicker than the distance suggests.

Four stationsSt Ives Chase and Belrose
St Ives Chase is our nearest neighbouring suburb, about 3 kilometres and 5 minutes off-peak. Further east, Belrose is about 10 kilometres, roughly 12 minutes, and Terrey Hills about 10 minutes, both coming across Mona Vale Road from the Northern Beaches side.
St Ives itself, of course, is home to many of our families, with the St Ives village shops under 2 minutes away by car, handy for a quick errand after drop-off.
For St Ives Chase families, the centre is close enough that some days a pram walk to the park afterwards is part of the routine.
Terrey Hills, with its semi-rural lots, is about 10 minutes away, making St Ives one of the closer long day care options for families there who work toward the North Shore.
Belrose and Terrey Hills families usually join us because a parent works on the North Shore, so the centre sits on the way rather than out of it.
Mona Vale Road is the connection for all three, and Killeaton Street is a short turn off it.
For families on the Northern Beaches side, the centre is on the way to the North Shore rather than a detour, which is why it can work well when one parent works in Gordon, Pymble or Chatswood.

Across Mona Vale RoadParking, drop-off and the Mona Vale Road run
We are on Killeaton Street, one turn from Mona Vale Road, so you can arrive from the east or the west without a detour. You park in the street close to our gate, and prams and scooters roll in on a flat path with no steps. We open at 7:00am, which helps parents get ahead of peak traffic.
Mona Vale Road is the spine of most families' trips, linking Gordon and Pymble to the west with St Ives Chase, Terrey Hills and the Northern Beaches to the east.
Arriving between 7:00am and 8:00am usually means an easier drive and a calmer handover.
If you are visiting for the first time, allow a few extra minutes to find parking and walk in; after the first week, most families have the routine down.
Sign-in is on a digital system at the door, so a quick drop-off on a busy morning is simple.
Drop-off tends to be busiest just before 8:00am, so a few minutes' buffer keeps the morning calm for you and your child.
Pick-up is flexible up to 6:00pm, with no extra charge for a later collection within opening hours.

Getting to Lead, answered
How far do families travel?+
Most families travel less than 10 minutes, coming from St Ives, St Ives Chase, Pymble, Gordon, Turramurra and Wahroonga. Some come from further, such as Hornsby, Lindfield, Belrose or Chatswood, usually because the centre sits on their route to work. Off-peak drives range from about 5 to 16 minutes.
Is there parking at drop-off?+
Yes, there is street parking near the entrance on Killeaton Street, and the path from the street to our front door is flat for prams. The centre is a short turn off Mona Vale Road, so it is easy to reach from both directions. Arriving before 8:00am usually means the easiest parking.
Which suburbs do you serve?+
We welcome families from anywhere, and most come from Ku-ring-gai and the Upper North Shore: St Ives, St Ives Chase, Pymble, Gordon, Killara, Lindfield, Roseville, Turramurra, Warrawee and Wahroonga, plus Hornsby, Chatswood, Belrose and Terrey Hills. There are no zoning rules for long day care.
Can I get to the centre by public transport?+
Yes, although most families drive. St Ives has no railway station, but buses link St Ives with Gordon station, the main interchange on the North Shore line. Check the Transport for NSW trip planner for current services from your suburb, as routes and timetables change from time to time.
Do I need to live in Ku-ring-gai to enrol?+
No, you do not need to live in Ku-ring-gai or St Ives to enrol. Long day care has no catchment zones, and any family can apply for a place. Many of our families live nearby, while others choose us because the centre sits on their route to work.
