What is a portable office?
A portable office is a freestanding building designed for work. It sits outside the main house or on a site, connects to mains power, and functions as a complete office from day one. No renovation. No shared walls with the house. No disruption to existing structures.
Portable offices range from basic site cabins made of steel and fibreglass to premium glass-walled pods. The Portable Pod sits at the architectural end of that range, using double-laminated glass, insulated composite panels, and a galvanised steel frame built to residential standards.

Our portable office, 6x3m glass design.
The Portable Pod is not a site cabin. It is an architectural glass office that happens to be portable. Double-laminated glass along the full long elevation brings in natural light and makes the space feel like a real office, not a converted shed.
Every kit ships flat-pack from our Sunshine Coast workshop. The chassis, insulated panels, glass, doors, windows, flooring, smart lighting, and power outlets are all included in the $18,500 base price. Transport is quoted separately to your address.
Portable office uses home, site, commercial.
The same 18m² structure works across a range of professional settings. Here are the most common applications.
A permanent desk space in the backyard, away from household noise. The most common reason buyers purchase a portable office. Business owners and sole traders can depreciate the asset under ATO rules.
Relocatable site administration for construction projects, rural properties, and remote work locations. Crane-truck placement handles access that standard construction cannot.
Private practice for psychologists, physiotherapists, counsellors, and allied health providers. Complete separation from the residential building maintains a professional environment.
Small businesses adding desk capacity to an existing property without a building extension. Two pods linked together give 36m² for a team of four to six people.
Buy or hire a portable office?
We only sell. If you are looking at hire options, read the comparison below before you decide. For many buyers, the total hire cost over two to three years exceeds the purchase price.
Own it outright
Pay once and keep the asset. No monthly fees, no hire contracts, no end-of-term removal cost. The pod stays on your property until you choose to move or sell it.

Rent and return
Hire suits short-term or project-based needs. You pay monthly and hand the unit back at the end of the contract. Most hire offices are basic steel cabins, not glass-walled pods.
- Ongoing monthly fees, typically $400 to $1,200
- No equity at end of contract
- Unit returned on contract expiry
- Limited customisation options
- Hire offices are rarely architectural grade
- After 24 months you have paid equivalent purchase price

- Yes. The Portable Pod uses insulated composite wall panels and earth-wool roof insulation as standard. The galvanised steel chassis and double-laminated glass are designed for Australian outdoor exposure. The weatherproof external power inlet is sealed to prevent moisture ingress. The structure performs well in coastal, tropical, and arid climates.
- The galvanised steel chassis is rated for decades of outdoor exposure without corrosion treatment. Double-laminated glass does not degrade under UV. Insulated panels are designed for a building lifespan. With basic maintenance (cleaning gutters, checking door seals) the pod should last 20 to 30 years or more.
